Superior Essex White Paper Examines RF Interference Effects on CAT 6A UTP Cables Designed with Discontinuous Metallic Shield
Atlanta, GA, September 22, 2009 – Superior Essex, one of the largest wire and cable manufacturers in the world, today announced that it has released a White Paper that examines noise immunity characteristics of Category 6A UTP cables designed with discontinuous metallic shield segments on 10GBase-T Ethernet networks.
“Alien Crosstalk interference from nearby Category cables represents the greatest threat of interference to a 10GBase-T Ethernet network,” said Dr. Paul E. Neveux, Jr., director of premises products for Superior Essex. “The reason is that, while physical layer design of 10GBASE-T can compensate for less than perfect internal crosstalk and return loss performance, 10GBASE-T cannot compensate for alien cross talk.”
The White Paper details the results of two testing approaches used to study both external noise and Alien Crosstalk on traditional Category 6A cables as well as 10Gain® XP, a CAT 6A UTP cable designed with discontinuous metallic shield segments manufactured by Superior Essex.
The paper compares the levels of noise measured in the tests against noise levels in different high RF interference environments and provides assessment and conclusions that are valuable for network engineers designing and selecting high performance cabling systems.
